Our strategy

  • Cloud first

Kantar has a cloud-first approach. All new services are designed and built to be cloud native, and we plan to migrate all existing platforms and services to the cloud. Our strategy is actively supported by Microsoft, our global partner, and we are using the Azure platform and key technologies within it. As part of this partnership, we have direct access to Microsoft Cloud solution architects, product teams and training resources for Kantar teams, to ensure that we leverage the technology to best effect whilst addressing the ever-changing landscape of our industry. New projects are cloud native in Azure, and we use Kubernetes & Docker for containerisation.

  • Automation and time-to-market with DevOps

We are automating and speeding up our development cycles by moving our development organisation to a DevOps structure. In 2019 we initiated a programme designed to accelerate our capabilities in 24 focus areas, including Continuous delivery, architectural expertise, product & process maturation, and cultural transformation. Development & Support teams use Scrum, and there is a massive adoption of DevOps practices across all teams, supported by tools as Sonar and Azure DevOps.

Recent projects

Co-created market research platform

The platform was created in partnership with leading digital partners using Azure cloud ecosystem, Databricks, Power BI, Python, Java, and tools such as Azure DevOps within the agile methodology.

This platform provides an end-to-end view, combining digital and traditional data, which is helping to manage the challenge in terms of media consumption fragmentation (people watching content on many different devices and platforms, making measurement more difficult).

Replatforming a Data Center

We helped with the migration of on-premises Data Center processing to Azure cloud. The processing clusters to be migrated employ resources of more than 2,000 CPUs to process 150000 events/second (more than 2,000 million requests per day).

The challenge was to find the right architecture to deal with the volume of data, at an attractive cost. Our strategic partnership with Microsoft facilitated discussions, as we could benefit from the latest evolutions of Azure Cloud and related technologies (Databricks, Data Lake, using Spark queries).
